Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. Ltd. reported record sales for June of $670 million (22.5 billion Taiwanese dollars), an increase of 26.2 percent over the same month last year.
The sales also increased 3.7 percent sequentially, and capped off a stellar Q2 for TSMC. As a result, the company said, net sales for Q2 also hit a record high of $1.9 billion (64.87 billion TWD).
Revenue for the six-month period between January and June was $3.6 billion (122 billion TWD), an increase of 37.1 percent over the first six months of 2003.
¡§TSMC¡¦s wafer shipments for June continued to grow over May due to increased market demand. This resulted in sales revenues for June rising to a record high,¡¨ said Lora Ho, VP and CFO of TSMC, in a statement.
While the June sales marked the third consecutive monthly sales record for TSMC, on a percentage gained basis, however, TSMC was outdone by its closest rival, United Microelectronics Corp.
The second place foundry Wednesday reported net sales for the month of June of $310 million (10.3 billion TWD), up 46.79 percent from June 2003 and up 6.87 percent sequentially. For the first six months, UMC gained 37.62 percent for January through June sales of $1.6 billion (54.5 trillion TWD).
