A Toshiba dynabook model is the most environmentally friendly notebook personal computer, according to data collected by the Nikkei Research Institute of Industry and Markets.
The institute gathered data on seven best-selling 15-inch notebook PCs running Microsoft 's Windows XP operating system and installed with DVD players and other devices.
Toshiba's dynabook TX/2513CDSW topped the list, getting high marks for its resource-saving light weight. Its circuit board is 30% smaller in area than predecessor models, and it uses 20% fewer components.
NEC Corp's LaVie L LL750/9D, 10% of whose plastic was recycled, came in second. IBM Japan Ltd's ThinkPad R51 N887-63W, which uses only the essential circuitry according to usage and thus saves energy, took third place.
