AMD, Sunnyvale, Calif., already offers Athlon 64 processors designated the 3200+, 3000+, and 2800+. The 3400+, like other AMD processors, will offer an Enhanced Virus Protection security feature, to be enabled by the upcoming Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2.
The Athlon 64 processor 3400+ will be incorporated into notebooks offered by Alienware and Epson Direct, according to the company.
AMD's other new processor, the Athlon XP-M processor 2200+, is being incorporated into a convertible PC from Averatec that combines the flexibility of a notebook and a tablet PC.
"The C3500 Series convertible PC is the first to pack the power of a mobile AMD Athlon processor into an innovative tablet design," said Saeed Shahbazi, president of Averatec, in a statement. "This PC with integrated optical drive offers all the features that mobile users demand in a portable form factor with tablet functionality."
List price for the 3400+ is $432 each in 1,000-unit quantities, while the 2200+ will cost $97 each in similar quantities. Both processors are available immediately.
