Freescale delivers good quarterly gain


Wednesday, July 21, 2004 Freescale Semiconductor Inc. said sales for the second quarter of 2004 were $1.46 billion, up 31 percent from the second quarter 2003 net sales of $1.12 billion, and 5 percent from the first quarter 2004 net sales of $1.40 billion.

Net earnings in the second quarter of 2004 were $43 million, or $0.15 per share, according to Freescale, formerly known as Motorola Inc.'s Semiconductor Product Segment. This compares to a net loss of $174 million, or minus $0.63 per share, in the second quarter of 2003. In the first quarter of 2004, net earnings were $106 million, or $0.38 per share, which included separation expenses of $9 million.

Growth drove the increase over the second quarter of 2003, including demand for the company's RF, digital signal processors, communications processors and microcontrollers.

"The Freescale team delivered solid results in the quarter with good momentum across all of our businesses," said Michel Mayer, chairman and CEO of Freescale Semiconductor, in a statement
