The IT sales in China reached US$106 billion during the first five months, up by 44.5 percent compared the same period of last year, according to the China-based National Development and Reform Commission.
The handset sales and shipments hit US$29 billion and 102 million units respectively, increased by 24.7% on year basis. China's Ministry of Information Industry (MII) projects total IT sales value for this year to rise 26% on year to US$287 billion, making China the world's second largest IT producer after the US. MII forecast the total PC and handsets will reach 35 million units and 170 million units respectively.
Meanwhile, the personal computer’s shipments to Europe in the second quarter hit 39.7 million units, up by 5 percent over the same quarter last year, according to IDC. "Demand in Europe, supported by the strong euro and aggressive promotions, was the biggest driver of the quarter," said Loren Loverde, director of IDC's Worldwide Quarterly PC Tracker. Dell, Hewlett-Packard Co, IBM Corp, Fujitsu Ltd and Acer Inc. are the top vendors in Europe. Acer showed the greatest growth from the year-ago quarter, of 30.7 percent according to IDC, and 30.9 percent according to Gartner.
