Samsung Electronics plans to cut 64Mbit (4Mbitx16) SDRAM prices to US$2 per unit in August in a move to reduce its inventories, according to a new source familiar with the matter.
This price level for 64Mbit SDRAM has not reached this low since October last year. Even at the US$2 level, Samsung still enjoys a cost advantage over competitors due to its more advanced technologies, sources familiar with the matter said.
Average spot prices for 64Mbit (4Mbitx16) SDRAM PC-133 and PC-166 were traded at US$2.48 and US$2.57, respectively as of this week, their lowest levels in eight months, according to DRAMeXchange.
