In order to serve Taiwanese businessmen stationed in China, Chunghwa Telecom aiming at the China's telecommunication industry. Chunghwa Telecom will team up with China Telecom's Shanghai subsidiary and Suzhou subsidiary to tap business opportunities there.
According to Chunghwa Telecom, over 300,000 Taiwanese business people are staying in Shanghai and most of them reside around Suzhou Industrial Park. Most of these Taiwanese enterprises in Shanghai have their own private circuit networks, allowing them to efficiently control their communication spending. Chunghwa and China Telecom will base their services on the Asia Pacific Cable Network 2 (APCN2) undersea optical-fiber network. The APCN2 cable is a joint venture by telecom firms of dozens of countries in the Asia-Pacific region.
Chunghwa's vice presidents Chang Feng Hsiung and Chiang Chen Tsun have recently taken part in several telecom-related conferences on China, where they met with Shanghai Telecom officials and discussed ways to roll out more telecom services to serve local Taiwan businesspeople. Before end of this month, Chunghwa will hold a meeting for Taiwan businesses in conjunction with Suzhou Telecom to demonstrate the latest video conferencing, broadband and IP-VPN (Internet protocol virtual private network) technologies linking Suzhou, Xiamen, Taipei and Hsinchu.
Chunghwa Investment, a reinvestment company of Chunghwa Telecom, has already set up an office in Shanghai, and it plans to establish another office in Hong Kong to serve more Taiwan businesspeople.
