Intel is on track to introduce the world's most advanced chip production technology in its products next year, the company said. The 65-nm process technology will have transistors that provide a 1.4x increase in raw frequency compared with the 90-nm technology.
"This is evidence that Moore's Law continues," Intel's executive said, referring to the chip industry's movement that the number of transistors on a chip will double roughly every two years.
Intel said the process has been made with a special focus on limiting power consumption and heat dissipation, including the use of "sleep transistors" that cut off power to parts of chips that are not in use.
