Cypress projects earning decrease

Tuesday, September 7, 2004

After six sequential quarters of growth, Cypress Semiconductor Corp. today said that it expects a 5 percent to 10 percent quarter-over-quarter decrease for Q3.

Revenue of $264 million, resulting in pro forma earnings per share of 11 cents to 15 cents, has been projected after the connectivity company said in its Q2 statement that it expected growth to continue.

Cypress attributed the revised projection to ongoing softness in customer orders. The major contributing factors have been inventory in the channel, reduced product lead times and a slowdown in the networking and wireless infrastructure businesses, it was said.

Cypress is scheduled to report its September on Oct. 14.
