Revenues for public fabless companies grew 44 percent year over year to a total of $8.3 billion in second quarter of 2004, the Fabless Semiconductor Association (FSA) said.
The CDMA Technologes division of Qualcomm Inc. was the leading fabless company with Q2 sales of $790 million. Broadcom Corp. ranked second with revenues of $641 million, while ATI Technologies Inc. was third with $492 million, the FSA said.
The FSA also reported that 46 mergers and acquisitions have taken place among fabless companiess in the second quarter totaling $2.8 billion.
Fabless companies reported spending, on average, 14.5 percent on research and development in Q2.
