Wednesday, September 29, 2004
Local sources reported that Wistron received notebook PC orders from Dell while LCD TV from Toshiba. Dell's notebook PC order is a 14.1-inch wide-screen, which will begin s volume shipments at earliest time before yearend with 30,000-40,000 unit per month. However, Wistron declined to confirm the report.

Wistron started shipping 12.1-inch Inspiron 700m widescreen notebooks to Dell in July and will begin delivering two value notebooks, in 15-inch and 15.4-inch screen sizes, to Dell. The report suggested that Dell's new 14.1-inch model will compete against the recently launched Hewlett-Packard (HP) 14.1-inch Pavilion dv1000 and Presario V2000 notebooks.

Wistron also landed orders for 30-inch LCD TVs from Toshiba after Wistron shipped about 400,000 LCD TVs in 14-inch and 20-inch sizes to Toshiba during the first half of this year. Presently, Wistron has sent several thousand of 30-inch LCD TV for final testing at the Toshiba Japan.

Separately, Quanta Computer Inc. has acquired ODM (original design manufacturing) orders from Japan's Toshiba Corp. Quanta becomes Toshiba's third Taiwanese contract manufacturer following Compal Electronics Inc. and Inventec Corp. and schedule to deliver100, 000 notebooks to Toshiba by the end of this year for evaluation before sending more orders.
