Memory card maker SanDisk has licensed a method for embedding security into flash memory from Discretix.
"We view cryptographic security as an important element in our strategy for mobile storage in the coming years," said SanDisk's CEO, Eli Harari. "We selected the Discretix's CryptoFlash after an extensive evaluation of alternative solutions because we concluded that it offers a superior security solution that is flexible and responsive to different mobile security applications."
CryptoFlash provides all major standard bulk encryption, hashing and PKI algorithms as well as implementation for secure storage," claimed Discretix, and includes a hardware core "that enables high data rate, on-the-fly, cryptographic performance without any performance degradation."
It will be integrated into SanDisk's forthcoming flash microcontroller, aimed at e-commerce-capable phones. Products should appear in the first half of 2005, SanDisk said.
