Growing at a compounded annual growth rate of 25 percent, Santa Clara, Calif.¡¯s VLSI Research Inc. said in the long run, copper wafer demand would be very high, topping 1.3 million copper wafers starts per week in 2009.
This year, VLSI expects 435,300 copper wafer starts per week, representing 40.2 percent of all sub-200nm wafer starts.
Comparatively, copper wafer starts were 4,100 per week in 1997, 34,500 per week in 1999 and 234,800 per week, last year.
