After hitting more than 130,000 motherboards in third quarter, Asustek Computer Inc. replaced the reigning leader Micro Star International Co. as the largest producer in China.
The first-tier motherboard makers including Asustek, Micro-Star and Gigabyte Technology Co. are taking turns to become number one producer, which most of them are running full capacity. Most of these companies are expecting their motherboard shipments to hit a new high for the year in September and will expand 10-15% sequentially in the fourth quarter.
Meanwhile, second-tier manufacturer, Abit Computer Corp. has also penetrated the China DIY (do-it-yourself) market. The shipment comes in few thousand but slowly gaining ground as the company looking for ways to offer low-end motherboards to secure this market.
