In order to become top five computer brands in China, Acer Inc. is adopting direct marketing strategy that will cut cost, bracing themselves to compete directly with foreign brands such as Dell and IBM.
Acer become successful using the direct marketing strategy in Europe and will bring the same strategy to China. J.T. Wang, Acer's president said the company can provide a 10% of gross profit to the local Chinese dealers and hope to this strategy will attract more. Acer's chairman Stain Shih met with 400 dealers in the China to let them know Acer's aims and strategy.
This year, Acer gross revenue projected to hit NT$220 billion, with China's operation estimated to contribute NT$9 billion. In 2005, Acer set its focus to hit NT$300 billion mark in gross revenue with China's operation projected to contribute NT$18 billion. Acer forecast to ship 6.0 million notebook PCs and 4.0 million desktop PC.
Jim Weng, president of the IT products business group at Acer said the company already shipped 2.2 million notebooks in the first eight months of this year. Acer has schedule to increase production capacity to 500,000 notebook PCs per month starting in the fourth quarter.
