Rambus Inc. (Los Altos, Calif.) reported third-quarter earnings of $10.4 million on revenue of $38.8 million, reflecting what the company said was a strong revenue stream from contracts signed last year for its XDR memory interface, Redwood interface, and serial link technologies.
By contrast, Rambus earned $5.0 million on sales of $28.6 million in the year-ago third quarter and $8.3 million on sales of $35 million the second quarter of 2004.
Third quarter results include $30.5 million in royalties, up 24 percent from a year ago and 3 percent from the previous quarter.
Cash, cash equivalents and marketable securities decreased $13 million from the previous quarter to $219 million. The company attributed part of the decrease to $11.1 million in cash paid to Cadence Design Systems for purchasing certain serial link patents and cells.
