Reinforcing its commitment to customers in the Asia-Pacific region, National Semiconductor Corp. today opened its first manufacturing plant in China, an assembly and test facility to employ 400 in Suzhou Industrial Park, located outside Shanghai.
Products are now shipping from this new facility to customers around the world.
“This is a great strategic opportunity for National to build its business in China and integrate our manufacturing operations into the world’s fastest-growing semiconductor market,” said Brian Halla, president and CEO at National in a statement.
The plant is a half-million square feet and was built to allow National to expand its capacity for assembling and testing semiconductors, complementing its existing assembly and test plants in Malaysia and Singapore.
National said it would invest $200 million in the facility, which shipped its first finished products to customers in July.
The site includes three buildings on 550,000 square feet on a total land plot of 36 acres and is located about 50 miles west of Shanghai.
