The number of AMD-based notebook models launched by international brands in cooperation with Taiwan OEMs in the fourth quarter of this year will be 50% greater than the number of AMD-based machines released in the first quarter of this year, according to sources at Taiwan notebook makers.
Acer recently launched its Ferrari 3400 notebook, built using AMD’s Mobile Athlon 64 3000+ CPU, the sources noted. In addition, Acer’s Aspire 1520-series notebooks are built using AMD’s Athlon 64 CPUs, while its Aspire 1360-series are built with AMD’s Mobile Sempron processor.
Asustek will also introduce an A4-format series of notebooks this quarter that will feature AMD Mobile Athlon 64 and Mobile Sempron processors, said the sources.
Other Taiwan makers, including Quanta Computer, Compal Electronics, Wistron, Mitac Technology Corporation (MTC) and Uniwill Computer, will also begin shipping AMD-based models this quarter, according to the sources.
