Samsung Electronics said that it "played an integral role in the development and manufacturing" of the Personal Internet Communicator (PIC), announced by Advanced Micro Devices..
The PIC is a low-cost computer with internet access that runs the Windows operating system which is aimed at users in China, Russia, Mexico, India and the Caribbean. Samsung said it would be supply AMD DDR1-based, small-outline, dual inline memory modules (SODIMM) for inclusion in these low cost computers.
"Samsung's collaboration with AMD is a major step toward fulfilling our commitment to help people in the developing world gain easy access to information," said Tom Quinn, senior vice president of marketing at Samsung Semiconductor, Inc.
