Oki Electric has set up a design center subsidiary in China to focus on designing communication application chips. The subsidiary will initially employ 20 people, mainly designers, but will increase over time.
Oki Semiconductor Technology Shanghai Co., Ltd officially starts operations Monday (Nov 1st) and will be the Japanese company's third semiconductor company in China, the eighth subsidiary for the group.
Oki has been expanding sales in the rapidly growing Chinese market particularly in devices for personal handy-phone systems (PHS), sound generator LSIs for ringer tones for mobile phones, memories for electronic dictionaries and toys, and microcontroller for digital audio equipment.
