Showing signs of the pending IC industry slowdown, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Ltd. and United Microelectronics Corp. both reported that October sales dipped below those in September.
TSMC reported October sales of $719.6 million (23 billion Taiwanese dollars), 0.9 percent down from September, and a modest 13.1 percent higher than October 2003.
The Hsinchu, Taiwan-based company said revenues for the period between January and October reached $6.7 billion (215.1 billion TWD), 30.8 percent higher than the $5.2 billion (164.4 billion TWD) recorded for the same period last year.
UMC took a bigger hit with its October revenues of $315.3 million (10.1 billion TWD), 15.2 percent lower than September, but 31.3 percent higher than October 2003.
For the 10 months between January and October, Taipei, Taiwan-based UMC’s revenues were $3.1 billion (99.15 billion TWD), 44.1 percent higher than $2.2 billion (68.8 billion TWD) in the same time period last year.
