Atmel and Interdigital to develope active WiFi booster antenna

Thursday, December 2, 2004

InterDigital Communications Corp. and Atmel Corp. have announced a cooperative agreement to license InterDigital's AIM (Adaptive Interference Management) antenna product solution for use in Atmel's Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) products.

Under the agreement, both Atmel (San Jose) and InterDigital (King of Prussia, Pa.) will market this performance enhancing capability to selected OEMs and ODMs.

The AIM antenna is a printed circuit board type, multi-element, directional antenna that teams with a software steering algorithm running on the existing device processor. The antenna can typically eliminate fade situations with demonstrated throughput rate increases of more than 100 percent, according to InterDigital, and boost throughput at the edge of coverage by an average of 80 percent.
