There was an apparent explosion and fire at Fairchild Semiconductor International's wafer fab in Maine on Friday (Dec. 17).
The explosion occurred when a tanker truck was unloading hydrogen gas at Fairchild's fab in South Portland, according to the Associated Press. No one was hurt, according to the report.
A blast was heard at 6:53 a.m. near the plant, which is located near the Portland International Airport, according to the report. The delivery truck apparently caught fire but firefighters kept it from spreading, the report said.
Some 600 people work at the Fairchild plant in South Portland.
Early Friday, firefighters were on the scene of a reported accident at Fairchild on Western Avenue in South Portland, Maine, according to the website of the local news station.
There were no word of any injuries but parts of the plant are being evacuated and police are urging people to avoid the area, according to the report.
