With the roadmap laid ahead for motherboard units, the PCI express is primarily designed for high-end gaming market that requires the high-speed data acceleration, according to most of motherboard makers in Taiwan.
Because of PCI Express, first-tier makers like Asustek, Gigabyte, and MSI are strengthening their brands in the high-power gaming market, while second-tier makers such as Abit and Albatron will bundle high-end graphic cards with boards to stay in the competitive market.
Most of these motherboards still requires chipset platform from Intel as the company recently released the 915P/G and 925X chipsets, previously code-named Grantsdale and Alderwood. However, some local industry experts said that the PCI Express will take time for the user to adopt because of high cost and no substantial application of software that will require high data transfer.
