Netgear Inc. has unveiled a wireless device that bridges the gap between PC digital content and home-entertainment systems utilizing 802.11 technologies and a wealth of hardware connections and file formats. Announced Wednesday (Dec. 22), the Netgear Wireless Digital Media Player (MP115) utilizes 802.11b/g networks to transmit among existing PCs and television set AV jacks.
Users won't be required to install file formats because they are included in the MP115, including MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, JPEG, GIF, TIFF, BMP, MP3, Windows Media Audio, WAV, M3U, PLS and streaming MP3 formats.
The MP115, which carries a suggested price of $220, also features remote control and on-screen menus enabling users to easily move through libraries of songs, movies and snapshots.
The wireless device operates with existing PCs running Windows 98 and up. The MP115 comes with WEP 64-bit and 128-bit encryption to keep hackers and snoopers at arm's length.
NetGear said the MP115 can interface with home-theater devices via stereo audio, composite video, component video, S-Video, and SCART interfaces.
