STMicroelectronics (ST) announced the availability of a 64-Mbit Serial Flash memory for code storage.
This new device is claimed to be the world's fastest 64-Mbit serial-interface Flash memory and has an enhanced data transfer clock speed of 50MHz and read throughput of 50-Mbit/second. The simple four-line serial serial peripheral interface (SPI) interface greatly simplifies system design, reduces pin-count, and offers reduced power consumption via a deep power-down mode that draws only 1mA of current.
The M25P64 is the latest and largest density within the M25P family and is suitable for code storage in a wide range of applications, such as all-in-one printers, PC motherboards, set-top boxes, CD and DVD players, digital TV, digital cameras, graphic cards, and flat-panel displays.
The M25P64 products come in the industry’s smallest standard package for comparable products. The 64-Mbit device is offered in a MLP8 package (dimensions of 6 x 8mm), as well as in a S016 package.
Samples are available and volume production is planned for the first quarter of 2005. Pricing is US$6.2 in volume quantities.
