Advanced Micro Devices Inc. introduced a range of microprocessors for notebook computers called Turion , but did not give any technical details of the processors or explain how they differ from its existing ranges of processors, according to reports.
The reports, bylined Las Vegas where the Consumer Electronics Show is taking place, said the Turion line is a 64-bit processor aimed at "thin and light" notebooks and at competing with Intel's Centrino. Intel dominates the notebook computer space, the reports said
Computers based on Turion would be available by mid-year, the company said..
"Today our strength is in the full-sized notebook, or desktop-replacement, space," the report quoted AMD mobile marketing manager Bahr Mahoney as saying. "This product is optimized for mobility," it also quoted Mahoney saying.
AMD had not placed any information about Turion on its website at the time this story was first posted.
