Nokia is planning cuts in research and development at its multimedia division, with losses expected mainly at facilities in Finland and Germany.
A Nokia spokesman said the company plans to cut 250 jobs in Finland.
"Globally we expect the number of affected people to be a few hundred," said the spokesperson. "With these cuts we are really well positioned to capitalize on the opportunities we see in the multimedia space."
Nokia said the number of personnel reductions will be decided after negotiations with employee representatives are finalized, and it expects the reductions to materialize gradually during this year.
