SMIC plans to cut its wafer production and slashed its capital spending from $1.37 bilion to $1 bilion for 2005 citing slowdown in the semiconductor industry, according to Reuters.
It hopes to produce between 140,000 and 155,000 wafers a month by the end of this year, down from its previous target of 185,000. Monthly output reached 110,000 wafers by the end of 2004, the report said.
