Rambus filed new suit against several Dram makers

Rambus Inc, filed a patent infringement suit in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Calif. alleging Hynix Semiconductor, Infineon Technologies, Nanya Technology and Inotera Memories, “have infringed and continue to infringe” 14 U.S. patents that Rambus holds.

In addition, the complaint alleges Infineon, Nanya and Inotera have infringed on an additional four patents held by Rambus.

The allegations regard DDR2, graphics DDR2 (GDDR2) and graphics DDR3 (GDDR3) memory components; DDR2 memory modules; and DDR2, GDDR2 and GDDR3 memory controllers sold by the companies named in the suit.

“With analyst firms projecting a rapid transition this year from DDR to DDR2 and GDDR, and with strong evidence of infringement of our patents already in the public record, we have taken this step today, filing our first new patent case in the U.S. since August 2000,” said John Danforth, senior VP and general counsel at Rambus, in a statement.

“Our preference is to work with the semiconductor industry to provide value and resolve these issues through other means. But sometimes we -- like other patent holders -- must rely on the court system to be fairly compensated for our inventions,” he added.
