Nanya Technology plans to allocate up to 50% of its capacity for DDR2 production by the end of the second quarter, according to "Pai",company spokesperson.
Pai believes Intel’s recent launch of its Alviso chipsets and the launch of the Sonoma platform for notebooks will accelerate the industry’s transition from DDR to DDR2. He also believes the transition to DDR2 for notebooks is accelerating in the first quarter of 2005.
Pai projects DDR2 will account for about 70% of demand for DRAM by the world’s major PC OEMs by the fourth quarter, up from slightly below 40% in the first quarter.
Nanya is also leading its competitors in Taiwan with validation of its DDR2 with Intel. According to Pai, Nanya has validated six 400MHz DDR2 and two 533MHz DDR2 chips with Intel. All six chips feature a 512Mbit density. The firm has also validated its 256MB and 512MB modules for notebooks and desktops
