After six very high-profile years, Carly Fiorina is out at Hewlett-Packard and Robert Wayman has been named interim CEO. Patricia Dunn was tapped as nonexecutive chairman, the company said early Wednesday .
The board will begin a search for a full-time CEO immediately, according to the statement.
"While I regret the board and I have differences about how to execute HP's strategy, I respect their decision," Fiorina said in the same statement. "HP is a great company and I wish all the people of HP much success in the future."
Fiorina, engineered the controversial and contentious buyout of Compaq Computer and was an extremely high-profile executive who's been under fire for the past year.
In the statement, Dunn said: "Carly Fiorina came to HP to revitalize and reinvigorate the company. She had a strategic vision and put in place a plan that has given HP the capabilities to compete and win. We thank Carly for her significant leadership over the past six years as we look forward to accelerating execution of the company's strategy."
