Mosaid Technologies Inc. on Thursday (Feb. 17) announced that it has settled its patent litigation suit with Hynix Semiconductor Inc. and that the South Korean company has licensed its patent portfolio.
On January 19, Mosaid (Ottawa) initiated litigation against Hynix and two of its U.S.-based affiliates for infringement of six of Mosaid's U.S. patents in the Eastern District of Texas. In its complaint, Mosaid claimed that Hynix has infringed its DRAM patents.
Under the settlement, Mosaid announced that it has signed an agreement with Hynix, which settles the litigation. It grants Hynix a license to the patent portfolio for a term of six years.
Hynix joins many other major DRAM and semiconductor manufacturers who have already licensed Mosaid's patent portfolio, including Fujitsu, NEC, Toshiba, Hitachi, Mitsubishi Electric, Oki Electric, Matsushita, Winbond Electronics, Sony, Royal Philips Electronics and Samsung Electronics.
Mosaid also said revenues for the third quarter of fiscal year 2005 were $16.9 million, compared to $7.4 million in the third quarter of fiscal year 2004. Net earnings were $34 million, or $2.96 per diluted share, compared to net earnings of $320,000 or $0.03 per diluted share for the third quarter a year ago.
Results include a one-time income tax recovery of $28.3 million in the consolidated statement of operations and retained earnings.
