TSMC and Genesis Technology Inc. announced their support to the Semiconductor Test Consortium Inc. (STC), which is attempting to drive an open ATE standard, by joining the organization.
Three years ago, Intel, Advantest, Motorola and others co-founded the STC. Its aim is to devise an "open architecture" for ATE. This would enable the development of open "plug-and-play" modules, thereby addressing the soaring costs of IC test.
Advantest has developed the T2000 IC tester, based on the technology. So far, Advantest has shipped over 100 machines, most of which have been sent to Intel.
