Intel said it would acquire Oplus Technologies Inc., a privately held company in Israel that designs, develops and markets IC and software products for flat-panel plasma, LCD-TVs etc and has three lines of video processors targeted at digital televisions (DTV) and digital displays.
Intel said this acquisition supplements its goal of delivering silicon and software building blocks to allow OEMs to create consumer electronics devices such as digital set-top-boxes, digital media recorders and DTVs, as part of its digital home platforms initiative.
“The transition to digital displays coupled with a reduction in display costs is enabling larger, higher resolution televisions, but that in turn demands higher quality video processing capabilities,” said Glenda Dorchak, VP of the digital home group and general manager of the consumer electronics group at Intel, in a statement.
