National Semiconductor reported it is selling its assembly and test plant in Singapore in a move to streamline its operations in-line with its product focus on lower pin-count packages..
¡§Although National¡¦s Singapore facility is a world-class operation with a highly skilled workforce, it is geared more towards complex, high-pin count digital products,¡¨ said the copmany executive in a statement.
National operates wafer fabrication plants in Texas, Maine, and Scotland, with three test and assembly plants in Singapore, Melaka, Malaysia, and Suzhou, China. The Suzhou plant, opened last fall, supports National¡¦s analog businesses.
The facility employs approximately 1,000 people, including 320 professional staff and 680 technicians and operators.
