Applied Materials Inc. said it plans to expand its software development activities in India and take up engineering services research and development in the country.
Applied has a presence in Hyderabad and would consolidate its resources in Bangalore with a new center which will take up development for the 65 and 90 nanometer nodes.
India's technology industry is heating up now and it is the right time to set up semiconductor firms here, the company said. India has significant advantages because of its international technology community, its fab engineering capability, strong currency and intellectual property protection.
Applied currently employs 700 people in India.
