Johnny Shih, chairman of this leading NB supplier, announced that his company would expand its business into consumer and auto electronics sector soon. Furthermore, Asustek plans to merge some counterparts in notebook PC business to increase its production.
According to Shih, Asustek has decided to enter into the auto-electronic business with mature technical capabilities in related fields amid the continuous integration of the 3C lines. As for Asustek's new goal - auto-electronics field, Shih admitted there are some immediate challenges for his company as most established auto-electronic sales channels have long been controlled by big European and American companies. To overcome the obstacle, Asustek has commissioned the company's chief technology officer to steer related business development.
Asustek has set up a 500-member R&D team in mainland China in the purpose of upgrading the company's technical capabilities. Also, Asustek's new plant in Nanhui, Shanghai will start production in 2006, and is expected to help the firm achieve its goal of becoming a leading conglomerate in 3C businesses. Seemingly, Asustek is keeping its promise of achieving vertical business integration within the Asustek Group in 2005.
