Mountain View, Calif.-based MIPS Technologies Inc. reported today that custom video chip provider Huaya Microelectronics Ltd. has licensed its MIPS32 4Kc SMIC 0.18-micron hard core to develop digital television (DTV) products for the China market.

The MIPS32 4Kc SMIC 0.18-micron hard core has a worst-case frequency of 190MHz and a die area of 3.42 square millimeters.

¡°We strongly believe that it is the best processor solution for Chinese DTV," Biao Zhang, CEO at Shanghai, China-based Huaya, said in a statement. ¡°Now that MIPS Technologies has demonstrated its commitment to the China market by opening an R&D Center in Shanghai, we are fully confident that, by collaborating with MIPS Technologies, HuayaMicro can deliver world-class DTV products to our customers in a timely and cost-effective manner."
