Seeking to bolster its presence in enterprise computing, AMD Inc. has hired Rich Oehler, a former IBM fellow and chief technology officer at Newisys.
Oehler, a 40-year industry veteran known for his groundbreaking work in microprocessor, symmetric multi-processing and mission-critical systems design, will work at AMD's Office of Strategy and Technology, reporting to chief technology officer Fred Weber.
"It is a real honor to have Rich join the AMD team," said Weber in a statement. "His unique depth of experience in enterprise computing enhances an already immensely talented group focused on strengthening the performance, reliability, availability and scalability features of our 64-bit solutions."
Oehler will have broad responsibility to closely align AMD's multi-core, enterprise-class computing strategies with the top priorities of Fortune 1000 information technology management.
