IBM and Network Appliance Inc. said they agreed to a deal in which IBM will resell a broad line of Network Appliance storage products.
Network Appliance had agreed to use IBM's Tivoli software as a preferred method for handling storage management and would recommend IBM tape storage systems to their customers as a preferred product, the executive of the companies said.
The deal also extends IBM's portfolio of storage offerings. IBM said it is planning to withdraw its own network-attached storage products first introduced in 2002 and rely on NetApp instead.
IBM and NetApp said they will enter into an OEM agreement in which IBM will be able to sell the full line of NetApp products under the IBM brand.
