Intel said it aims to expand its NOR flash memory market to take the top spot in 2005.
Intel unveiled its StrataFlash Embedded Memory, an advanced flash memory, targeted at consumer electronics products such as flat TVs and digital cameras.
In capacity of 64 to 512 megabits, these embedded memory will be available this quarter, with a 1 gigabit version scheduled to be shipped in the second half of 2005.
In 2004, Intel took 24.5 percent of the $9.3 billion NOR flash market, just behind AMD's 25.9 percent, according to data from research firm iSuppli. But in the third and fourth quarters Intel became the No.1 player, surpassing AMD. And the company plans to stay at the top this year.
