Rambus acquired digital core IP from GDA

Friday, April 22, 2005 Rambus Inc. has acquired digital core intellectual property (IP) assets from GDA Technologies, Rambus said Thursday (April 21). Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Specifically, Rambus is acquiring digital core IP compatible with PCI Express, Ethernet, SPI-4, USB and SATA protocols, as well as products in development that will be made available based on customer demand, the company said.

Rambus (Los Altos, Calif.) said it would extend offers to a number of GDA IP developers based at GDA headquarters in San Jose, Calif. as well as Bangalore, India. Prakash Bare, vice president of GDA's IP business unit, will become general manager of Rambus' Digital IP business.

As part of this agreement, GDA, a design services firm, becomes a reseller of these digital controllers and will offer this IP along with its IP and IP-enabled services. Rambus said GDA may use the acquired controllers in custom designs through a technology licensing agreement.

In a statement, Samir Patel, vice president of engineering at Rambus, said the addition of the GDA IP cores would complement Rambus' existing technologies. He said the addition of Bare and a team of digital IP developers from GDA "enables us to accelerate the expansion of our design center in Bangalore" which "gives us an additional ability to attract top engineering talent in that region."
