Electronic manufacturing services provider Jabil Circuit Inc. has announced it would expand its Memphis operation to support expanded manufacturing, assembly, and material handling of electronic cash registers and self-serve kiosks.
Jabil (St. Petersburg, Fla.) will add 500 jobs between now and the end of the year, according to company spokesman.
Other electronic manufacturing service providers have been consolidating operations. Flextronics (Singapore) announced June 15 it would sell its semiconductor division to AMI for $135 million, a month after agreeing to merge its Flextronics Network Services subsidiary with Telavie A/S.
In April, Solectron Corp. (Milpitas, Calif.) said it would cut 3,500 employees worldwide, reducing its costs by $100 million to $115 million.
