Micron Technology and Infineon Technologies have started placing orders for NAND flash testing with Taiwan-based companies, according to sources.
Both King Yuan and Powertech confirmed that they have secured NAND flash orders this quarter and have started testing the memory in small volumes, with the overall production scale to grow significantly next month. However, the companies declined to reveal the names of their clients.
Supply for NAND flash testing is expected to run short of demand, as there are increasing orders from international memory makers while the average required testing time will take longer than usual, as the newly placed orders are for 4Gbit and more advanced NAND flash chips that are produced using 90nm technology, according to Taiwan-based testing companies.
Toshiba, Hynix Semiconductor and Renesas Technology released NAND flash testing orders to Taiwan last year, the Taiwan makers indicated. Although most of the NAND flash chips from Toshiba and Renesas continue to be tested by Powertech, Hynix does not have its flash chips tested in Taiwan anymore, as it does the testing itself, the makers added.
