DRAM prices seen up

Tuesday, July 12, 2005 Contract prices for memory products, such as DDR, DDR2, SDRAM and NAND flash, rebounded in July according to manufacturers and suppliers. For the 256-Mbit DDR-400, contract prices went up by 2.3 percent to $2.2 while prices for 512-Mbit DDR-400/333/266 memories went up by 3.3 percent to $4.4. Several DRAM makers say the upward trend for prices is expected to continue until September due to high seasonal demand.

An organization called DRAMeXchange foresees quotes for 256-Mbit DDR-400 surging to a peak of $2.6 between September and November this year.

Taiwan-based Nanya Technology Corp. has increased its contract price for 256-Mbit DDR-400 DIMMs (dual-in-line memory modules) by more than 5 percent to $23.

Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. from South Korea has similarly increased its quotes of the segment 20 percent higher than average contract prices. The company also raised quotes for its 4-Gbit and 8-Gbit NAND flash chips by $1 this month.

Hynix Semiconductor Inc. is also set to raise its price for 16-Mbit SDRAM-166 to $0.7 per unit.
