Intel introduce dual-core Pentium D processor for entry-level servers

Monday, July 18, 2005

Intel has introduced the dual-core Intel Pentium D processor-based platform for entry-level servers, which includes two processor cores in one processor and the corresponding Intel E7230 chipset.

According to Intel, this platform would be great value for small businesses who would wish to buy entry-level servers. The new platform would include features such as PCI Express I/O, 64-bit addressability, DDR2 memory and software RAID.

The introduction would follow already- introduced dual-core processors for Intel-based desktops and workstations and would be the first in what would be a family of Intel-based dual-core server products which would be shipping later this year and also in 2006.

The Intel E7230 chipset starts at $36 and is based on quantities of 1,000 units. Pricing for the Intel Pentium D processor varies from $241 to $530.
