Samsung Electronics will stop producing 16Mbit SDRAM from August, which should further push up SDRAM prices amid ramping consumer electronics demand.
With concerns of diminishing profits from low-density SDRAM production, Samsung has informed memory buyers that it will terminate production of low-density SDRAM. Samsung will shift its focus to high-density parts instead, while rival Hynix Semiconductor will follow suit, the memory buyers indicated.
Samsung was unavailable for comment at the time of publication but Hynix claimed the speculation was groundless.
