Micron Technology Inc. announced that it is the first supplier to sample 2Gb double data rate 2 (DDR2) components to a select server customer. According to the company, this 2Gb component is designed to enable up to 8GB high density modules, providing more memory per server with less space and power consumption than current component offerings.
Previously, Micron announced the validations of 1Gb DDR2 and 1Gb DDR devices for all leading x86 server platforms, as well as availabilities of VLP registered dual-inline memory modules (RDIMMs), 110nm 1Gb DDR, 1Gb DDR2, 4GB DDR RDIMMs and 4GB DDR2 RDIMMs.
"By being the first to provide the server market with these 2Gb DDR2 components, we expect to enable customers to immediately begin the testing and qualification process, thus speeding their time to market," commented Terry Lee, executive director of Advanced Technology and Strategic Marketing for Micron's Systems Memory Group.
Engineering samples are expected to be made publicly available in the second half of 2005.
