Although NAND flash contract prices continued dropping in July, it appears Samsung Electronics has tried to slow down the price falling on its high-density 8Gbit parts.
Contract prices for the 4Gbit segment fell 14.7% from June and 2Gbit prices fell 10.2%, while the 8Gbit segment saw a drop of only 7.7%, according to DRAMeXchange.
The sources attribute the less dramatic contract price drop for 8Gbit NAND flash to increased demand for high-density flash products, as well as limited suppliers for the segment.
Over the past couple of months, channel distributors have slashed prices for 1GB NAND flash drive, by up to 50%, which has spurred consumer demand and has boosted upstream demand.
Market analyst commented that most 1GB NAND flash based devices adopt 8Gbit chips, which are only produced by Samsung and Toshiba.
